Mizengo Pinda Campus – Katavi Region

SUA’s western gateway, located near Katavi National Park, aligning education and training with the region’s thriving agricultural and ecological potential.

The Mizengo Pinda Campus (MPC), located in Mlele District, Mpimbwe District Council, Katavi Region, extends the presence of Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) to Tanzania’s western zone. Named after Hon. Mizengo Kayanza Peter Pinda, former Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, the campus was established to cater for the educational and developmental needs of the area and is aligned with the region’s dominant economic activities such as beekeeping and crop production.

The campus is home to the Mizengo Pinda Campus College (MPC), the first functional campus college to be established in the Katavi and Rukwa regions. It offers academic and practical training programmes in bee resources, tourism, hunting operations, and crop production. Its proximity to the Katavi National Park makes it an ideal site for tourism and natural resource management training, providing students with exceptional opportunities for field-based learning and research in wildlife ecology, conservation, and sustainable tourism.

Through its demonstration farms and training facilities, the campus provides students with hands-on experience that integrates scientific knowledge with the local context of agriculture and natural resource management. It also engages farmers, government institutions, and the private sector in promoting innovation, sustainability, and value addition within the region’s agricultural economy.

Strategically located in one of Tanzania’s emerging agricultural frontiers, the Mizengo Pinda Campus embodies SUA’s mission of advancing applied education, research excellence, and community service. It continues to play a pioneering role in expanding access to higher agricultural education and applied sciences in western Tanzania.
